SMORGAS ~

SMORGAS ~

SMORGAS is a multimedia exhibition which featured indie films, local live music, and local painters and photographers on a rotating schedule during the course of one event. It was held in the Grand Gerrard Theatre as part of a rehabilitation initiative to revitalize the theatre’s public support. This event served to connect artists to collaborate with each other and prompt guests to engage with the works and artists exhibited on a deeper level with an emphasis on building community.

Applicants were prompted to answer the question ‘why does your art exist?’ and their works were featured alongside a card with the artist’s answer. The event boasted a turnout of around 200 guests, and exhibited alternating 30 minute band sets and film screenings with gallery-style art exhibition during intermission. This ‘open concept’ event was an experiment in alternative ‘variety exhibition’ methods.

Alternating band sets and film screening blocks occupied the stage, with intermissions separating each block so the stage or screen could be prepared while the guests mingled with the artists.

Art was displayed in the lobby and Theatre Entrance for viewing during intermission.
